Biedermeier writing desk
Biedermeier desk, covered with cherry wood veneer, combined with bird maple veneer details. The natural patterns of the wood form the main decorative effect on the object, which is characteristic of the Biedermeier style.
We love Biedermeier furniture because it has a timeless and refined elegance, so it can fit perfectly into any modern interior, giving it a note of elegance, originality and a sense of tradition. We also love this style, which was created in 1815 in Vienna and was in fashion until about 1848, because it was generally accepted in Vojvodina (then part of the Austrian Empire), and not only in Novi Sad, but also in every, even the smallest, place in Vojvodina. That’s why we like to offer our clients Biedermeier-style furniture, such as this writing desk, with a rectangular top surface below which is a single drawer with a shield-shaped ivory keyhole, and side supports with two posts connected by a single crosspiece. The legs are decorated with strips of bird maple veneer, which is a particularly nice detail on this table.
By the way, the Biedermeier style, unlike previous styles that were created for monarchs and high aristocracy, was the first style that was created for the needs of citizens, members of the middle bourgeois class. Thus, this style was the embodiment of the need of a citizen – a bourgeois for a comfortable and warm home, which provides refuge and where he can, in an intimate atmosphere, surrounded by family and friends, freely express his ideals. His home is devoid of luxury, grand opulence and excessive splendor, but it exudes a pleasant atmosphere, ideal for socializing and talking, playing music, family meals, making handicrafts and keeping notes about the household or business. That is why Biedermeier furniture is simple, comfortable, with emphasized functionality, often small in size and made from local types of wood, while being elegant, refined and attractive at the same time. For all these reasons, Biedermeier furniture can still be relevant today.
